Santa Catalina is remote, and that is most of its appeal. It also means the people who know the tides, the boat captains and the best day to go out are the ones behind the bar.
The grounds are planted with mango, avocado, cashew, lemon, papaya, soursop, orange and banana. Pineapples grow around the property, and if one is ready it tends to end up on the breakfast plate.
Everything else is on the property. A pool, a pool table, and a bar and restaurant where the chef cooks what the boats bring in. Boards and bicycles are kept here to take out whenever you want them, and the front desk arranges the boat trips. You only have to say which day.
